Machu Picchu


Machu Picchu is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. It is located in Peru on on the highest part of mountain in the Urubamba Valley. This place was Created as a historical park on on 8th January 1981.

The park was established to protect the landscape of the Macchu Picchu archaeological site, founded by the Inca culture. It is thought that Machu Picchu had an area for collecting coca from surrounding plantations. The site eventually fell into ruin, was covered by the forest, and “lost to science” until re-discovery in 1911.


In the middle of the 1980s, some 180,000 people annually visited the Inca Trail and the ruins. More recently, the figure has risen to 300,000. Now a day, the tourism area counts with hotel and camping facilities. A museum exists at the ruins and there are plans to develop the area further for tourism.







Travelling to Machu Picchu
There are different ways to visit Machu Picchu:
1) On foot, along the Inca Trail which is the most interesting alternative
2) By train from the city of Cuzco to Aguas Calientes
3) By helicopter from the Cuzco airport to Aguas Calientes.


Machu Picchu it's one of the most beautiful and interesting historical places to visit. So if you have a chance to do it, don´t lose it.
